Obituary

Ray Fortune Butts, age 86, of St. Petersburg, Florida, passed away Tuesday, October 15, 2013, at the VA Hospice in Bay Pines, Florida. He was born May 24, 1927, in Haldeman, Kentucky, a son of the late Milton Butts and Dolly Arks Butts. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Russell Butts, Robert Butts, Lester Butts, and Roy Butts; six sisters, Olivie Crum, Virginia Siler, Hazel Harris, Rosetta Little, Mildred Eldridge, Revielle Klein; and one step grandson, Wesley Parish. Ray is survived.by his former wife, Mildred Adkins Johnson of Morehead; three daughters, Rhonda Sue Butts and George Veach of Ypsilanti, Michigan, Kathy Ann Trent and Ronnie of Ypsilanti, Michigan, and Jeanie Diane York and Ken of Cincinnati, Ohio; one stepdaughter, Loretta Joan Parish and Rodger of Sharpsburg, Kentucky; two grandchildren, Brittany and Ashley York; three step grandsons, Ajax, Tait, and Wade Parish; one step great granddaughter, Kaitlin Parish; several nieces and nephews including Terry Lee Butts of Tampa, Florida, Jim Eldridge of Georgia, Steve Klein of Marathon, Florida, and Sue Brown of Ashland, Kentucky. Ray was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran having served from June 1944 until August 1946. He was a former meat cutter at various groceries, including Allen's IGA and Cut Rate Grocery, both in Morehead and Kroger's in Cincinnati. He was of the Baptist faith. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, October 19, 2013, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Dr. Michael Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Olive Hill with military honors by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126, who will also serve as pallbearers. Visitation is from noon until 2 p.m. Saturday, October 19, 2013, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead.
