Ranzel Back, age 83, of Dayton, Ohio, and Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, February 3, 2022, at St. Joseph Hospital in Mt. Sterling.

Born June 27, 1938, in Magoffin County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Oscar Back and Myrtle Patrick Back Scutchfield. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard Back and Rayo Back, and two sisters, Noka Free and Nova Childress.

Ranzel is survived by his wife of 61 years, Elizabeth A. Pennington Back, whom he married April 16, 1960; three sisters, Veona Layman of Bellbrook, Ohio, Gathel Miller of Harrodsburg, Kentucky, and Pansy Hatton of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky; a sister-in-law, Karen Sue Burns of Texas; two nephews; and special friends, Joann Masters, Estill Wolfenbarger, Jackie Cole, and Johnnie Nester.

He was the owner and operator of B & B Flooring.

A funeral service will be held 5 p.m. Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals with Robbie Conn officiating.  Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351

Burial will be in the Miami Valley Memorial Gardens in Dayton, Ohio.
