Phyllis Curtis Black, age 74, of Daffy Duck Road, Morehead, passed away Monday, June 5, 2023, at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.
Born August 23, 1948, in Morehead, she was a daughter of the late Clayton and Lena Fay Curtis. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Jerry Curtis; one sister, Annabrella Curtis; and one granddaughter, Danielle Perry.
Phyllis is survived by her husband of 56 years, Lemuel Washington Black, Jr., whom she married May 13, 1967; one daughter, Angela Leigh Black of Morehead; one grandson, Josh Perry and wife Bria of Bedford, Kentucky; four great grandchildren, Zelda Perry, Gunnar Adkins, Diesel Law, and Meadow Perry; and several nieces and nephews.
Other survivors include honorary family members, James and Zona Hall and son, little James, Chris and Regina Gilliam and their two daughters and son, Darrell and Judy Blankenship and grandson River, Chris Bowman, and Billy Young; as well as extended family, including her church family, and many friends.
She was secretary for JR Black Construction and a former employee for Monarch Hardware, secretary for Glennis Fraley, and bookkeeper for Perks, Big 4, and Larry's Marina. Phyllis also owned and operated Black's Trucking Company and a Produce Stand in Morehead.
Phyllis devoted her life to her family, whom she was so proud of and loved dearly. A member of Slab Camp Christian Church, Phyllis loved God and her church. She enjoyed being outdoors, gardening, fishing, and spending time with family, especially her grandchildren. Phyllis will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday, June 8, 2023, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor Greg Bowman and Brother Charles Moore officiating. Burial will follow in the Arnold – McClain Cemetery.
Pallbearers: Buck Jones, Timothy Black, Darrell Blankenship, Clinton Brewer, Tanner Bowman, and Arlie Perry. Honorary pallbearers: James Hall, Chris Bowman, and Billy Young.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351.
