Phyllis Jean Baker Adkins, age 80, of CCC Trail, Morehead, passed away Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at UK–St. Claire HealthCare in Morehead after an extended illness.
She was born August 1, 1945, in Rowan County, a daughter of the late Herbert Baker and Carrie Marie King Baker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Coy Allen Adkins and infant Billy Joe Adkins; three brothers, Kenneth Baker, Charles Baker, and Tommy Baker; and four sisters, Cora Lee Ward, Lula Belle Fraley, Carmie Mabry, and Faye Mabry.
Jean is survived by her devoted husband of 63 years, Coy Adkins, whom she married on August 11, 1962; one son, Johnny Adkins and wife Diane of Morehead; and two cherished granddaughters, Hilary Bonilla of Valparaiso, Indiana, and Autumn Adkins of Morehead. She is also survived by two sisters, Jewell Meenach of Lancaster, Ohio, and Mary Hamlin of Corbin, as well as several nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends.
Jean was a retired cook for the Rowan County School System and attended Elliottville Baptist Church. She loved spending time on the farm caring for the cows and horses. Above all, she treasured her family and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, August 31, 2025, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Brother Herbert D. Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in Ditney Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Johnny Adkins, Rick Baker, Steve Caudill, Charlie Winkleman, Jack Templeman, and Rodney Roe.
Visitation will be from 12 noon until 2 p.m. Sunday, August 31, 2025, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY.
