Pete Armstrong, age 90, of Meadow Lane, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Monday, October 24, 2011, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead. Born June 22, 1921, in Rowan County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Richmond Thomas and Maggie Gregory Armstrong. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, C. L. -Booge- Armstrong and Wathan Armstrong. Pete is survived by his wife of 66 years, Audrey Evans Armstrong, whom he married September 17, 1945; two sons, Paul Michael Armstrong of Morehead, Kentucky, and Thomas Leslie Armstrong and wife Debra of Lexington, Kentucky; one sister, Freida Armstrong Switzer of Morehead, Kentucky; four grandchildren, Leslie Armstrong Wright, Michael Shawn Armstrong and wife Morgan, Jennifer Greff and husband John, Amanda Smith and husband Michael; and five great grandchildren, Austin Wright, Dustin Wright, Colten Armstrong, Audrey Armstrong, and Cadyn Armstrong. Pete served his country in the U.S. Army from 1941-45. He retired from the Morehead Post Office after 19 years of service as a mail carrier and maintenance worker. He was a former employee of General Motors in Dayton, Ohio, and Carr Lumber Company in Morehead, and owned and operated Armstrong Grocery on Morgan Fork Road in Clearfield. Pete enjoyed antiques, building houses, and traveling with Audrey and other family members in his motor home. He was a member of Morehead Masonic Lodge No. 654. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday, October 28, 2011, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Rev. Cecil Ison and Rev. Mike Pennington officiating. Burial will follow in Brown Cemetery with full military honors by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126. Pallbearers will be Butch Armstrong, Preston Armstrong, Rick Armstrong, Stefan Armstrong, Jerry Flannery, and Rick Bradley. Honorary pallbearers will be Brian Plank, Gene Hamm, Harold Collins, Tom Leach, Austin Wright, Dustin Wright, and Colten Armstrong. Visitation is after 5 p.m. Thursday at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals. Masonic services will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, October 27, 2011, by Morehead Masonic Lodge No. 654.
