Obituary

Grace Pauline Litton Bishop, age 88, of Mooresville, North Carolina, formerly of Morehead, passed away Thursday, February 6, 2014. Pauline was born August 12, 1925, at The Ridge in Elliott County, a daughter of the late James Ray Litton and Ella Rae Black Litton. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Faye Ferguson; and four brothers, Ray Litton, Edward O. Litton, J. D. Litton, and George Litton. Pauline's husband of 53 years, L. G. (Laverne G.) Bishop, passed away May 13, 1999; son, Gary Lee Bishop, in 1982; and son, Donald Bishop, in 1951. Survivors include one daughter, LaVerne Gail Bishop Hayes and husband Charles Richard Hayes of Mooresville, North Carolina; five grandchildren, Eric Thomas Conley, Eve Litton Conley Staude, Bradley David Bishop, Joshua Bishop Conley and Alexander Richard Hayes; and ten great grandchildren. Pauline is also survived by one brother, Art Litton of Morehead; one sister, Patty Jones of Dayton, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. Pauline, alongside her husband L.G. Bishop, was an entrepreneur in Morehead, where they lived and worked. Among the businesses they were instrumental in starting were L.G. Bishop Lumber and Supply, Jerry's Restaurant, Ready Mix Concrete, Tastee Freeze, a bowling alley, and Long John Silvers. Pauline was a Girl Scout leader and an accomplished seamstress and homemaker. Her hobbies included gardening and painting. A woman of faith and longtime member of the Morehead First Church of God, she brought light into the lives of all she touched. She was generous and ever a lady, who earned the admiration and respect of everyone she encountered. Always devoted to her family, she spent her final years enjoying her five grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. A Celebration of Life will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, February 9, 2014, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor Allan Hutchinson officiating. Interment will follow in Brown Cemetery. Grandsons; son-in-law, Chuck Hayes; and grandson-in-law, Ron Staude will serve as pallbearers. Visitation is from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Saturday, February 8, 2014, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gary L. Bishop Endowment, Morehead State University Foundation, Palmer Development House, Morehead, KY 40351. Visitation: Saturday, February 8, 2014, from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. Funeral: Sunday, February 9, 2014, at 2 p.m. Interment: Brown Cemetery
