Obituary

Paul Manchester Wells, age 89, of Pennington Flat, Morehead, passed away Saturday, August 2, 2014, at his residence after a long illness. He was born February 12, 1925, in Rowan County, a son of the late Willie and Odell Reed Wells. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two infant sons, John and David Wells, and one granddaughter, Tara Rae Black. His wife of 53 years, Clara Faye Adkins Wells, passed away November 22, 1997. Mr. Wells is survived by one son, Douglas Wells of Morehead; five daughters, Carol (Jimmy) Adams, Paulette (David) Haney, Diane (Bob) Tackett, and Janie (Jerry) Estep, all of Morehead, and Linda (Bronson) Black of Olive Hill; 12 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; and special caregivers, Shane Sloas and Lisa Haney. Paul served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a lifelong farmer. He was a former employee of Johnson Milk Company; later, as a construction worker he helped build I-64, Cave Run Lake, the former Morehead Cinema, and Holiday Inn. He ended his career at Morehead State University after 21 years of service. He was a member of Johnson First Church of God and DAV #143 in Bath County. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 5, 2014, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Bro. Mark Poston officiating. Burial will follow in Hogge Cemetery. Morehead American Legion Post No. 126 will provide military honors and serve as pallbearers. Visitation is after 5 p.m. Monday, August 4, 2014, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead. Visitation: Monday, August 4, 2014, after 5 p.m. Funeral: Tuesday, August 5, 2014, at 11 a.m. Interment: Hogge Cemetery - Cranston Road
