Paul David Thompson, age 74, of Meadowlands Drive, Morehead, Kentucky, returned to be with Heavenly Father on Monday, December 17, 2012, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead. Paul was born in Ashland, Kentucky, on December 30, 1937, to Paul and Alma Mae Garvin Thompson, who preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife of 49 wonderful years, Patricia Ann Smith Thompson, whom he wed March 9, 1963; one son, Andrew Culley Thompson and wife Melissa; and two grandsons, Seth Andrew serving in the U.S. Navy and Cole Walker at home; and a step granddaughter, Aariel Nicole (Zack) Jones of Morehead, Kentucky. Also surviving are two sisters, Rebecca Kay (Lundie) Blevins and Marjorie Lou Hunt, of Ashland, Kentucky, and several nieces and nephews. Paul was a High Priest in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and was a member of the Owingsville Ward. He served in many capacities. He was a 1955 graduate of Ashland High School and an eight-year veteran of the United States Air Force, where he served with the USAF Security in the Far East. Paul was employed with the Kentucky State Employment Service. He started as a junior clerk in Ashland and retired as the state director of Employment Service in Frankfort, Kentucky. Other employment was with the City of Morehead's Department of Recreation. He was active in youth sports and was a coach in Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball and Pee Wee Football. He was a past president of the Rowan County Football Boosters and an avid supporter of Rowan County football. He was a past president and life member of the Kentucky Long Rifles and a life member of the state Kentucky Corps of Longrifles. He was a past president of the League of Kentucky Sportsmen District 8 Federation, and a past president of his state agency's professional organization (I.A.P.E.S.). Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, December 21, 2012, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Bishop Seth J. Green officiating. Interment will follow with military honors at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Northeast, Grayson, Kentucky. Pallbearers: Seth Andrew and Cole Walker Thompson, Zack Jones, Kyle Sexton, Mike Smedley, Allen Hicks. Visitation is from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, December 20, 2012, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, Morehead, Kentucky.
