Paul Edward McKenzie, age 96, of Hardin Road, Morehead, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 8, 2023, at his residence.
Born July 6, 1926, at Cogswell, in Rowan County, he was the son of the late John Holley McKenzie and Flora Estelle Jones McKenzie. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of almost 73 years, Darlene Kuhn McKenzie, whom he married June 29, 1948; seven brothers: Charles McKenzie, John McKenzie, Earl McKenzie, Douglas McKenzie, Larry McKenzie, the Rev. Guy McKenzie, and Rodney "Red" McKenzie; and two sisters, Avis Johnson and Ann Conn.
Paul is survived by his children: Paula McKenzie Wright and husband Ralph of Atmore, Alabama, Harley Dale McKenzie and wife Diane, Cindy Jo McKenzie, Paul Cameron McKenzie and wife Kelly, all of Morehead; five grandchildren: Jessica McKenzie, Justin McKenzie, Emily McKenzie, Casey LaMulle, Izak McKenzie; and three great-grandchildren: Jaiden McKenzie, Madolynn McKenzie, and Levon McKenzie. Other survivors include one sister, Brenda Davis of Tipp City, Ohio; his extended family, including his church family, and many friends.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the 242 Infantry (Rainbow Division). Paul and Darlene were co-owners of McKenzie Termite and Pest Control in Ashland from 1976 to 1989. A member of the First Church of God all of his married life, he and Darlene were active in the Meade Station Church of God in Ashland and the Clearfield First Church of God Tabernacle after they moved to Morehead. Paul served in many leadership positions including Sunday School teacher, Board Member and Chairman of the Board for many years. He will be greatly missed and always remembered with appreciation, humor, and love.
A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, June 12, 2023, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor Aaron Conn officiating. Burial will follow in New Alfrey Cemetery with full military honors by Morehead American Legion Post 126.
Pallbearers: Justin McKenzie, Izak McKenzie, Darrell McKenzie, Joe McKenzie, Pat McKenzie, and Roy Michael Conn.
Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, June 11, 2023, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351.
