Paul R. Cooper, age 74, of Shelby Lane, Wallingford, passed away Sunday, April 26, 2015, at his residence. He was born May 10, 1940, in Rowan County to Robert and Sally B. Stone Cooper. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Flossie Sparks Cooper in 1994; two brothers, Arthur Thomas Cooper, a World War II casualty, and Henry Cooper; and two sisters, Ellen Cooper Plank and Garnet Fay McCleese. Paul is survived by his wife, Mary Smith McCleese Cooper, whom he wed September 16, 1996; two children, Gary L. Cooper and wife Tammy of Morehead and Charolett Sue Abbott and husband Dale of Shelbyville, Tennessee; two grandchildren, Andrew and wife Jessica and Daniel Cooper; two stepsons, Earsel McCleese, Jr. of Boynton Beach, Florida, and Lawrence Logan of Cranston; two stepdaughters, Brenda Kissick and Wilma Logan, both of Morehead and four step grandchildren, Casey Shay, Jessie Logan, Elizabeth Logan, and Brandy Barker; two step great grandchildren, Madison Shay and Shelby Stanley; one sister, Ruby Mae Cooper Kinder of Chillicothe, Ohio; and one brother, Lowell Vernon Cooper of Elliottville. Paul was a carpenter, truck driver, and owner and operator of Cooper Homes. He enjoyed woodworking and was a member of Morehead Masonic Lodge No. 654 and Morehead Shrine Club. Paul was a faithful member of Sharkey Freewill Baptist Church. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 29, 2015, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Harley Sexton, Jr., and Bro. Gerald Saunders officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers: Andy Cooper, Daniel Cooper, Jack Lewis, Tom Lewis, Lawrence Logan, Phil Littleton, and Dale Abbott. Honorary pallbearers: Eldon Smith and Kenny Smith. Visitation is after 5 p.m. Tuesday, April 28, 2015, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead with masonic rites conducted at 7:30 p.m. by Morehead Masonic Lodge No. 654.
