Obituary

Patricia Ann Ascough Watts, 81, of Allen Avenue, Morehead, KY, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 9, 2014, at the U.K. Medical Center in Lexington, KY. Born September 3, 1932, in Holden, WV, she is the daughter of the late Clifford A. and Ann Estella Thompson Ascough. For 55 years, Patty was the beloved wife of Vinson Alan Watts, Sr., who preceded her in death on March 17, 2008. Patty was active in the Girl Scouts and graduated from Logan High School in Logan, WV. She attended Berea College and graduated with a bachelor's degree. Patty continued her education at Morehead State University, where she received a master's degree. Patty served for several years as Coordinator of Graduate Programs for Morehead State University. In that position she touched the lives of many area educators and administrators. Patty was active in professional education societies, including Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, a professional honor society of women educators. Patty served as President of the Epsilon Chapter, Alpha Gamma State, for 1984-1986. Patty was also active in Phi Delta Kappa, which supports and encourages public education activities. Patty was a dedicated reader and enjoyed books throughout her life. She served as a volunteer at the Rowan County Public Library to help others enjoy books and was a member of the Board of Trustees for several years. Patty was a member of the Kentucky Retired Teachers Association. She and Vinson were members of the Morehead United Methodist Church and enjoyed activities with the Merry Mixers. She is survived by two sons, Vinson Alan Jr. and Claudette Watts of Morehead and Patrick and Patricia Watts of Montgomery Village, MD; two grandsons, Vinson Alan III (Tripp) and Chelsea Watts of Morehead, KY, and Leslie Todd and Ashley Watts of Flemingsburg, KY; and three great grandchildren, Nathan Hogg, Keaton Watts, and Aaron Watts. Additional survivors include two brothers, Dr. James Ascough of West Lafayette, IN, and Larry and Kay Ascough of Garland, TX; nieces and nephews; and her devoted caregivers. Visitation is after 5 p.m. Monday, January 13, 2014, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 14, 2014, at the Morehead United Methodist Church with the Rev. Aaron Mansfield and Rev. Drew McNeill officiating. Burial will follow in Brown Cemetery. Pallbearers: Mickey Reffitt, Bob Cooper, Wes Holland, Josh Lawson, Alex Hill, and Steve O'Connor. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to Morehead United Methodist Church, 227 West Main Street, Morehead, KY 40351; or Hospice of the Bluegrass, 2409 Members Way Lexington, KY 40504 Visitation: Monday, January 13, 2014, after 5 p.m., Northcutt & Son Funeral: Tuesday, January 14, 2014, at 11 a.m., United Methodist Church Interment: Brown Cemetery
