Opal Marie Litton Sluss, age 91, of Litton Road, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, April 19, 2012, at her home. Born April 13, 1921, in Rowan County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of Samuel Joseph Litton, Sr., and Stella Mae Stidom Litton. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Lucille Litton DeHarte, and one brother, Sam Litton, Jr. Opal was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Carl B. Sluss, Sr., on June 9, 1999, and a son, Carl Bemis Sluss, Jr., on May 5, 2006. Mrs. Sluss is survived by three daughters, Mary Lou Helwig and husband Jack III of Babson Park, Florida, Rhonda Ramey and husband Eddie of Morehead, Kentucky, and Julia Neill and husband Jim of Morehead, Kentucky; two sons, Samuel Edison Sluss and wife Jean of Morehead, Kentucky, and Charles Thomas Sluss of Morehead, Kentucky; 16 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and 5 great-great grandchildren. Mrs. Sluss retired from the Rowan County School system after a teaching career of nearly 30 years. She began her career in a one-room schoolhouse at Johnson and also taught at Lawton, Haldeman, and Morehead Grade schools. Family was always the primary focus of Opal-s life and she cherished the special times spent with her family and dear friends. She also enjoyed crocheting, quilting, and working in her flowers. She was a lifelong Christian and member of Siloam First Church of God. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, April 23, 2012, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Brother Jerry Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. Visitation is after 5 p.m. Sunday, April 22, 2012, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead.
