Obituary

Opal Sparks Barker, age 91, of Skaggs Road, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, July 11, 2012, at her home. Born August 1, 1920, at Martha, Kentucky, in Lawrence County, she was a daughter of the late John Wesley Sparks and Mary Vesta Evans Sparks. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Delmer, Darrell, and Duel Sparks; one sister, Neva Barker; and one son-in-law, Homer McKenzie. Her husband, Dewey Franklin Barker, passed away January 9, 1976. Mrs. Barker is survived by one son, Jack Barker and wife Connie of Morehead, Kentucky; one daughter, Carol Sue McKenzie of Dix, Illinois; one sister, Marlene Wells of Johnson County, Kentucky; five grandchildren, Rodney McKenzie, Vickie Bowers, Paula Richards, Jordan and Rebecca Barker; and a host of great grandchildren. Mrs. Barker was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, and working with flowers. She was a member of Elizabeth Baptist Church in Martha, Kentucky. Visitation will be 5 p.m. on Friday, July 13, 2012, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with a funeral service immediately following at 6 p.m. with Brother Joe Cline officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Rodney McKenzie, Jordan Barker, John Brown, Frank Brickey, Adam Bowers, Jacob Bowers, Ethan Bowers, Ryan Perigo, and Gary Hay. Arrangements are under the direction of Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead. Visitation: Friday, July 13, 2012, 5 p.m. - 6 p.m. Funeral: Friday, July 13, 2012, at 6 p.m. Interment: Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens
