Ollie 'June' Keeton, Jr., of Morehead passed away at home on Thursday, May 26, 2016, after an extended illness. Born in Sandy Hook on June 25, 1932, to his late parents, Ollie and Carrie Keeton, he was married for 64 years to his wife, Virginia McKenzie Keeton, with whom he raised three daughters and one son. He and his family are of the Baptist faith and his surviving friends and family are celebrating his life here on earth as well as his journey to see his Father in Heaven. Raised on Wells Creek in Elliot County, Ollie was a proud veteran of the US military. He enlisted in the US Army in 1948, served during the Korean War, and later served in the US Air Force stationed at Wright Patterson AFB in Ohio. Following his military service, Ollie became a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disabled Veterans of America. However, he was most active in Morehead American Legion Post 126 where he served in many positions, including several years as post commander. He was also involved in most post activities, particularly the Post 126 baseball team, and served for many years as a member of the organization's Honor Guard. His dedication to serving others was also reflected in his membership in Elliot County's Hepburn Lodge 576 of the Fraternal Order of Masons. Professionally, in the 1960s he worked for several years at the General Motors plant in Columbus, OH and also for several more years as a barber in the Columbus area. In 1970, he and his family returned to Rowan County where he spent the next 30-plus years in the home exterior remodeling business. Survivors include his loving wife of 64 years Virginia and four children: Linda (Clifton) Delormier of Morehead; Hershell Ray (Kathy) Keeton of Clayton, NC; Karen (Phil) Gulley of Morehead; and Allison Dee (Mark) Fisher of Royersford, PA. Nine grandchildren: Nikki Lang Fletcher, Sonya Reed, Matthew Delormier, Dustin Keeton, Collin Keeton, Kristi Oliver Plank, Carrie Caudill, Rachael Fisher, and Bobby Fisher. He has one surviving brother: Roger Dale Keeton, of Columbus, Ohio. The family extends a heartfelt thanks to his close friends Luther Adams, Carl Sizemore, and Pat McDaniel who helped comfort him during his illness along with his very special niece, Janie Kidd. Many thanks to his special nurses Mary Anne Brown and Brooke Sapp for their caring assistance during his time of need and to Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals for their loving care provided through this difficult time.
