Obituary

Olgie -Red- Gilliam, age 90, of Lee Avenue, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, September 16, 2010, at his residence. Born July 25, 1920, at Isonville, Kentucky, in Elliott County, he was the son of the late Herbert and Gracie Sparks Gilliam. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one grandson, Scotty Joe Gilliam; two brothers, Oval Gilliam and James Gilliam; and one sister, Ethel Pittman. His wife of 59 years, Wanda Phillips Gilliam, passed away August 13, 2007. He is survived by three sons, Gordon Gilliam and wife Barbara of Lexington, Kentucky, Doyle Gilliam and Barbara of Morehead, Kentucky, and Gregory Gilliam and wife Becky of Morehead, Kentucky; six grandchildren, Kisha, Crystal, Jason, Alyssa, Belinda, and Johnny; and 10 great grandchildren, Whitley, Evelyn, Felicia, Scott, Lane, Caden, Ethan, Logan, Johnathan, and Zach. Also surviving are three brothers, Eugene Gilliam of Martha, Kentucky, Avery Gilliam of Swansea, South Carolina, and Yorkie Gilliam of Cincinnati, Ohio, and five sisters, Laura Lyon of Isonville, Kentucky, Lora Fleming of California, Myrtle Conlly of Martha, Kentucky, Elena Woodford and Pam Davis, both of Plain City, Ohio. Mr. Gilliam was a devoted father and grandfather and a retired supervisor for Codell Construction Company. He was a proud-serving veteran of World War II and always kept his American flag waving to the end. He was a Christian and attended Morehead First Freewill Baptist Church. He was also a Kentucky Colonel. Funeral services were conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, September 19, 2010, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. David Starcher officiating. Burial was in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens with full military rites conducted by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126. Pallbearers were James C. Codell, Scott Bowling, Jason Gilliam, Ralph Lyon, Gary Phillips, Charlie Hamm, and Stan Elliott. Visitation was after 5 p.m. Saturday, September 18, 2010, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals. Visitation: Saturday, September 18, 2010, after 5 p.m. Funeral: Sunday, September 19, 2010, at 2 p.m. Interment: Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens
