Obituary

Odice Burchess Trent, 88, went home to be with the Lord on July 14, 2017, at his residence. Born February 22, 1929, in Rowan County, Kentucky, to Reverend Zora A. Trent and wife, Vada Skaggs Trent, he resided on the Trent Ridge in Rowan County all of his life. Odice is survived by Helen Deloris Kidd Trent, his wife of 69 years, whom he married December 18, 1948, and their four children: Bobby R. Trent and wife Debi K; James (Jimmy) D. Trent and wife, Vandy D.; Lynda Sue McCarty, and Sharlet N. Kidd and husband Danny L. Kidd, all of Morehead. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren: Stephanie D. Trent, Gary Wayne Kissick, Jama D. Marcum, Amy D. Bowman, Jared D. Kissick, Jonathan D. Kidd, and Kelli D. Trent; 10 great grandchildren: Ashley Conn, Autumn Eldridge, Kallie Eldridge, Peyton Marcum, Trent Kissick, Landon Marcum, Sydni Kissick, Gage Kidd, Kaelor Kissick, and Luke Bowman; and one great-great grandchild, Nora Grace Conn. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Beauford, infant J. C., and Travis Trent; and sisters, Maudie Wallace, Martha Weddington, and Ruby Darlene Webb. He is survived by two brothers, Zora Nelson Trent of Jacksonville, Florida, and Eugene Trent of Olive Hill. He is also survived by many nephews, nieces, cousins and extended family along with a host of friends and neighbors. Odice worked in the sawmill business for several years with his father and brothers. Later, he worked as a millwright for R. L. Wells Lumber Company and for many years following that he was a self-employed carpenter constructing many homes in Rowan, Elliott and Morgan counties. He was instrumental in the construction and completion of homes for each of his children. Odice always said he had to work a public job in order to do what he loved-farming. He was a devoted Christian since August 1952. He belonged to the New Home Christian Church. In addition, he and his wife Deloris attended several other churches in the community. They loved to sing at church and were often called on for specials. He was an avid UK basketball fan as well as a basketball fan of MSU and local high schools. He loved babies and they loved him. He was a carpenter who liked to make things, furniture, tables, and decorative shelves. He loved to drive and explore what was over the next hill or around the next curve in addition to traveling in nearby states on vacation. He was a hunter and fisherman all of his life. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, July 15, 2017, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 16, 2017, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Elijah Wagoner and Jack Evans officiating. Odice will be laid to rest at Pennington Cemetery on KY 711, Blairs Mill Road, Rowan County, Pallbearers: Gary, Dusty, Wink, and Trent Kissick, Jonathan Kidd, Brian Bowman, and Herb Hyatt. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the New Home Christian Church, c/o Sharlet Kidd, 850 KY Hwy 173, Morehead, KY 40351.
