Nancy Elizabeth
(Utterback) Wayman
Nov 12, 1943 — May 10, 2026
Nancy Elizabeth Utterback Wayman, age 82, of Main Street, Salt Lick, Kentucky, passed away peacefully Sunday, May 10, 2026, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Born November 12, 1943, in Chicago, Illinois, she was a daughter of the late Clifford Utterback and Ruth Fischer Utterback. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 55 years, Cecil Ray Wayman, on May 12, 2022.
She is survived by three devoted children, Ruthanne Marie Wayman Schultz (Steven) of Morehead, Elizabeth Jean Wayman Roe (Keith) of Flemingsburg, and Clifford Cecil Wayman of Salt Lick; 11 beloved grandchildren, Christopher (Winter), Madison, Kearston, Devan, Zackery, Adriana, Mariam, Bethany, Nancy (Matthew), Kendall, and Kira; and 11 precious great-grandchildren, Sabrina, Annabeth, Braxton, Kayden, Madalyn, Adalyn, Prudence, Sarahlynn, Jayden, Christopher, Jr., and Rose.
Also surviving are one sister and brother-in-law, Mary Jane and Alan Weller of Piqua, Ohio; several nieces and nephews; as well as other extended family members and friends.
Nancy graduated from Morehead State University with a bachelor's degree and later returned to earn her master's degree in 1990. During that time, she co-wrote a history book entitled Spanish Art. She was an art history professor at Morehead State University and was known as one of the university's longest-serving adjunct professors.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Owingsville. Nancy was well known throughout the Morehead community for her fiber art and as a gifted spinner. She spun wool, created hats and scarves, and could spin nearly any type of fiber. Nancy often referred to herself as a "spinner of yarns" and was among the last spinning students of Granny Toothman. She traveled throughout Ohio and beyond performing spinning demonstrations and was fond of saying, "You've got to be good at spinning yarns while spinning yarn."
Nancy loved reading and was an avid artist, potter, sculptor, and watercolor painter. Most of all, she treasured time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel, with a celebration of life to follow at 7 p.m. Her granddaughter, Nancy Hatfield, will officiate the service.
