Morton Dempsey
Campbell
Jan 7, 1952 — Sep 17, 2023
Morton Dempsey Campbell, age 71, of Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, September 17, 2023, at his home.
Born January 7, 1952, in Wolfe County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Morton Campbell and Isabelle Banks Campbell Banks. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Mortina Campbell, and one brother, Adam Campbell.
Mort is survived by his loving wife, JoAnn Alderman Campbell, whom he married December 30, 1995; 2 sons, Brandon and wife Jennifer Black and Price Campbell of Morehead; one daughter, Kirstian Campbell of Morehead; and five grandchildren, Katelyn Black, Dakota Black, Katie Gilliam, Tristan Setters, and Carson Barnard.
Others to cherish his memory include two brothers, Charles Michael Campbell of Vancleve, Kentucky, and Andy Joseph Campbell of Lexington, Kentucky; two sisters, Lillie Pearl Neece of Lost Creek, Kentucky, and Anna Faye Kennard of West Liberty, Kentucky; a special long-time friend, Harold Collins of Clearfield, Kentucky, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Morton retired from Central Kentucky News Publishing Co. in Lexington, Kentucky, and was a former maintenance employee and school bus driver for the Rowan County Board of Education. He and JoAnn owned and operated Our Precious Moments Day Care in Clearfield. For many years they cared for foster children and were recognized as foster and adopted parents of the year.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, 4-wheeling, camping, working on the farm, planting flowers and gardening—and especially enjoyed playing pool with his wife…even though she beat him most of the time.
Mort's greatest enjoyment came from spending time with his family. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather whose wife, kids, and grandkids were his world. He will be forever remembered and loved. The family expresses their sincere appreciation to the St. Claire Hospice staff for the professional care they provided Mort.
A celebration of life will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, September 21, 2023, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor Richard Engle and Pastor Joe Cline officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
