Mitchell Ray Layne, Jr., age 39, of Willowbrook Court, Morehead, passed away Thursday, March 9, 2017, at his residence after an apparent stroke. Born May 3, 1977, in Morehead, he is the son of Debra Basford Layne of Morehead and the late Mitchell Ray Layne, Sr. He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 19 years, Crystal 'Crissy' Adams Layne, whom he married June 12, 1997; one son, Matthew Layne, at home; one daughter, Jordan Layne Bowling and husband Kyle of Morehead; one sister, Veronica Jean Puckett and husband Dave of Morehead; a special granddaughter, Lianna Rae Bowling; and other family members and friends. Mitchell graduated from Rowan County Senior High School in 1997 and retired from Family Dollar Distribution Center in 2014 after suffering a stroke. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family, especially his granddaughter Lianna. Funeral services will be conducted 3:30 p.m. Sunday, March 12, 2017, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals with Pastor Jeff Fannin officiating. Burial will follow in Brown Cemetery. Pallbearers: Matthew Layne, Donald Wayne Holbrook, Kyle Bowling, Dennis Midkiff, Archie 'Dukie' Adams, and Ivan Grimshaw.
