Michael Derek Whitehurst, age 23, of Roxanne Street, Clearfield, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, October 23, 2008, from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident in Clearfield. Born December 24, 1984, in Morehead, Kentucky, Derek is the son of Mike and Venita Ferguson Whitehurst of Morehead. In addition to his parents, he is survived by one brother, Michael G. Whitehurst of Morehead, Kentucky; two sisters, Stephanie Whitehurst of Tampa, Florida, and Charli Whitehurst of Morehead, Kentucky; one niece, Avery Rose Whitehurst; maternal grandmother, Faye Ferguson of Clearfield; paternal grandparents, Emma Lou Simmons and Bobby Whitehurst and special grandparents, Joe and Lily Eppenstein, all of Tampa, Florida; two uncles, Jody Ferguson and Shannon Flannery, both of Morehead,Kentucky; one aunt, Derita Applegate of Salt Lick, Kentucky; and cousins, Tobi Brooks, Adrian Hillebrand, and Morgan, Brandon and Peyton Ferguson, all of Morehead, Kentucky. Derek was an employee of McKenzie Concrete in Farmers, Kentucky, and enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping, and skateboarding. He loved his family and was looking forward to meeting his newborn niece.
