Medford Pennington, age 88, of Big Brushy Road, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, September 3, 2013, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead. Born January 6, 1925, in Elliott County, Kentucky, he was a son of the late Arthur and Elsie Harris Pennington. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Gerald David Pennington; one granddaughter, Rachel Pennington; one brother, Lowell Pennington; two infant brothers; and one daughter-in-law, Joyce Pennington. Medford is survived by his former wife of 50 years, Flora Bumgardner Pennington; two sons and six daughters, Johnny Medford Pennington and wife Rhonda, Derinda Jent, Fairlene Evans and husband Jeffrey, Stephan Jay Pennington and wife June, all of Morehead, Shawana Harris and husband Frank of Hillsboro, Janice Anderson and husband Frank of Eagle, Colorado, Sheena Nickell and husband Ray of Morehead, and Letisha Wallace and husband Jeffrey of Clearfield; 16 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren. Other survivors include five brothers and sisters, Edgar Pennington, Donald Pennington, and Denvil Pennington, all of Morehead, Fostella Winkle of Richmond, Indiana, and Vanzil Pennington of Grafton, Ohio; numerous nieces and nephews; other relatives; and friends. Medford retired from the State Highway Department and was a lifelong farmer. He enjoyed his mules and wagons and participating in horse and mule shows and parades throughout the area. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, September 6, 2013, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Harley Sexton, Jr., officiating. Burial will follow in the Purvis Cemetery. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Visitation is after 5 p.m. Thursday, September 5, 2013, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead.
