Maxine Deloris Merritt Huddleston, age 76, of Sunshine Lane, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, May 11, 2011, at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky. She was born August 16, 1934, in Columbus, Georgia, daughter of the late Vernon Lee and Eunice Valeria Wilkinson Merritt. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Vernon L. Merritt, Jr.; her husband, Willie J. Huddleston on June 30, 1971; and a son, Gregory Carlton Huddleston on July 25, 1993. Maxine is survived by one daughter, Valeria H. Morgan of Clearfield, Kentucky; one sister, Carmen Merritt Barton of Macon, Georgia; three grandchildren, Suzanne Huddleston Prashart, Merritt A. Carbajal, and Terri H. Thompson; five great grandchildren; and Kia Louise, her faithful canine companion. Maxine, a public health nurse for more than 50 years, enjoyed her work in New Orleans, Louisiana; Annie Walker Nursing Home in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky; St. Claire Medical Center, Life Care Center, and Rowan County Health Department in Morehead, Kentucky. She loved living an adventurous life, traveling, reading, and, most of all, giving special attention to her grandchildren, whom she adored. Maxine had been a member of Double Churches Baptist Church, Columbus, Georgia, since her baptism there in early childhood. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, May 15, 2011, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Mike Pennington officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation is after 5 p.m. Saturday, May 14, 2011, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
