Mattie Justine Day Hogge, age 85, of Old Hilda Road, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, January 9, 2013, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead. Born January 24, 1927, in Carter County, Kentucky, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Berniece Clevenger Day. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, William Allen Day and Vernon Day, and one sister, Juanita White. Mattie's husband, Jack Hogge, passed away in 1970. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Claude Phillip and Betty Day of Morehead, Kentucky; two grandchildren, Kelly Degenhardt and husband Brent, and Claude Phillip Day Jr. and wife Tyra; and three great grandchildren, Gaven Michael Degenhardt, Seth Phillip Degenhardt, and Lucus Donald Degenhardt. Other survivors include four sisters, Jeanette Barnhart of Hammond, Indiana, Freda Garman of Valparaiso, Indiana, Marcella Conn of Olive Hill, Kentucky, and Vivian Carter of Grayson, Kentucky; nieces and nephews; extended family; and friends. Mattie was a homemaker, a former employee of Hobbs and the Sundry Store, and a member of Bible Baptist Church. Funeral services will be conducted 10 a.m. Saturday, January 12, 2013, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Rev. Elijah Tackett officiating. Burial will follow in the Patton Cemetery in Soldier, Kentucky.
