Mattie Cantrell of Clearfield went to be with the Lord at the Ridgeway Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Owingsville on March 21, 2015, at the age of 101 years, 10 months, and 21 days. Born May 31, 1913, in Morgan County, she was a daughter of Arnett and Polly Cantrell. She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Parel Cantrell, Paris Cantrell, Monroe Cantrell, Harlo Cantrell, and infant Claude Cantrell; one sister, Elsie Wright; and two brothers-in-law, Leonard Wright and Ronald Keeton. Mrs. Cantrell is survived by her loving husband of 78 years, Edgar Cantrell; two daughters, Nettie Jean Tewell and Ed of Louisville and Fern Layne and Danny of Winchester; one granddaughter, Evetta Skaggs and Spike of Clearfield; two grandsons, Randell Burks and Terry of Apopka, Florida, and Jimmy L. Carpenter and Tammy of Louisville; 12 great grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren. Other survivors include one brother, Parley Cantrell and Jean of Woodsbend; one sister, Lina Keeton of Paris; two sisters-in-law, Ruby Cantrell of West Liberty and Lorraine Cantrell of Hobart, Indiana; and numerous nieces and nephews, friends and church family whom she loved dearly. Always a helpmate to Edgar, Mrs. Cantrell was a very loving and devoted wife. She dearly loved her family, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, as well as her beloved nieces and nephews. A lifelong Christian, she was always involved in church activities and greatly missed attending church in recent times because of ill health. She was a member of the Church of God. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 24, 2015, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Bro. Don Rivers, Rev. Max Molihan, and Rev. Lloyd Dean officiating. Burial will follow in the Gusty Smith Cemetery, Hwy. 589 (Middle Fork), West Liberty. Pallbearers: Jacob Cantrell, Dale Cantrell, Danny Cantrell, Paris Cantrell, Jesse Cantrell, and Jeremy Skaggs. Honorary pallbearers: Cassie Cantrell and Spike Skaggs. Visitation is from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday, March 23, 2015, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead. Visitation: Monday, March 23, 2015, 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. Funeral: Tuesdy, March 24, 2015, at 11 a.m. Interment: Gusty Smith Cemetery, Hwy 589 (Middle Fork), West Liberty
