Mary Evelyn VanHoose Teater died February 13, 2008, at her home in Edgewood Estates in Frenchburg, Kentucky. She was the only child of Charles W. VanHoose and Lula Patrick VanHoose and the widow of Oran C. Teater who preceded her in death on November 20, 2001. She is survived by her daughter Dianna T. Walke (Ron) of Morehead, KY and her granddaughter Lee Ann Walke Pepper (Daryl) and four great grandchildren: Anna Cecile, Mary Charlotte, Charles Dexter and Elizabeth Lee of Elizabethtown, KY. Evelyn was born in Thealka, Johnson County, KY on May 25, 1922. She wrote in her Memoir, I-m Glad I-m Not From Off, that she felt sorry for anyone who was not born in Paintsville or who did not grow up on Preston Street. She was an active member of the First Christian Church in Paintsville, served as president of the Paintsville Woman-s Club. Her career as a legal secretary was spent in the law offices of Wells and Wells. After her husband-s retirement as Superintendent of the Paintsville City Schools in 1978, they relocated to Lexington, KY. There she was an active member of Southern Acres Christian Church and spent a good deal of her time volunteering for various church events. In 1982, Evelyn and Oran moved to Morehead, KY to be near her daughter, son-in-law and grandchild. There she was active at the Morehead Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), where she volunteered at the Human Concerns Store and the Senior Citizen-s Day Care. She was also a member of the Morehead Garden Club. Visitation for Mary Evelyn VanHoose Teater will be held Saturday, February 16, 2008, at the First Christian Church, 227 East Main Street, Morehead, KY at 10:00 a.m. A celebration of her life will begin at 11:30 with the Rev. Mollie Smothers officiating. Burial will be at Highland Memorial Cemetery at Staffordsville (near Paintsville). Graveside services will be held at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals is in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers: David Mirus, Clyde I. James, David Perkins, Charlie Tingle, Lee Chaney, Larry Fannin, Jack Whidden, Wayne Caldwell, and Ronnie Caudill. Honorary pallbearers: Dan Thomas and the Elders of First Christian Church. Memorial tributes may be made to the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) Living Memorial Fund or St. Claire Regional Medical Center Foundation, 222 Medical Circle, Morehead, KY 40351. Visitation: Saturday, February 16, 2008, at 10 a.m. Funeral: Saturday, February 16, 2008, at 11:30 a.m. Interment: Highland Memorial Cemetery
