Mary Margaret (Peggie) Reynolds 88, of Morehead, passed away Sunday, March 29, 2015, at home after a brief illness. She was born February 9, 1927, in Morehead, daughter of James Silas Reynolds and Anna Caudill Reynolds Clay. Peggie is survived by brother William Earl Clay; nephews Terry Reynolds, Roy Reynolds, Joe Reynolds, and James Reynolds; nieces Alesia Reynolds, Anne Buckner, Mary Levee, Cindy Peake, and Virginia Hatmaker; and many great and great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Dr. Samuel E. Reynolds, Paul J. Reynolds, and James R. Reynolds. Peggie was a 1944 graduate of Breckinridge Training School. After high school, Peggie attended the University of Kentucky and graduated from Morehead State Teachers College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Physical Education. Peggie moved to McLean, Virginia, after graduation and taught 24 years with the Baltimore, MD Accelerated Schools. Taking a sabbatical from teaching for a few years, Peggie returned to MSU to receive a Master's in Education in 1964, and then received a grant to continue post graduate studies at UK in counseling. She received her Post Graduate Certificate in 1965 and returned to finish her tenure at Baltimore. Peggie was an avid sports lady. She liked all sports and spent her time at UK as captain of the women's basketball team the 'Glamor Cats.' She also played on UK's women's field hockey, gymnastics, and ping pong teams. She also accepted an invitation to play for a period of time on the women's professional Arkansas Red Head's Basketball team. During her time with the Baltimore schools, Peggie coached 9 different sports teams and the Dance Club. She was also invited to organize and participate in a wellness TV show in the 60's that promoted health, physical activity, and wellness. In the mid-70's, Peggie retired from teaching and returned to Morehead to care for her mother. She, and her brother Paul, ran 'Peg's Burger Shop' in Farmers for a number of years. In 1984, she began working with the Parks and Recreation Department in Morehead as the recreation supervisor and then as Park Director. She touched the lives of many Morehead children through her organization of team sports and the Morehead Summer Camp held at the park. After retiring from the city in 1997, Peg remained active with the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and was a Certified Emergency Medical Technician with the Morehead-Rowan County Rescue Squad. She also trained and participated as a Hospice Volunteer and organized Morehead Senior Games and Senior Wellness programs. An avid gardener, she has shared her love of plants and flowers with many in the Morehead area. Peg also loved a good party and rarely missed a UK basketball game.
