Mary "Betty Jo" Adkins Bowman, age 88, of Clearfield, went home to be with the Lord and family on Thursday, June 15, 2017, at Ridgeway Nursing and Rehabilitation in Owingsville. Born July 14, 1928, in Elliottville, she was the daughter of Marvin and Clonna Ferguson Adkins. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Ward William Bowman on January 12, 1991; one infant son, William Emory Bowman; and three sisters, Mauverine "Dolly" Adkins, Dorothy Bray, and Alice Davis. Betty Jo is survived by one daughter, Claudia Collins and husband Mike of Morehead; one son, Carlos Bowman and wife Brenda of Clearfield; four grandchildren, Greg Bowman, Brian Bowman, Michael Collins, Bill Collins; eight great grandchildren, Katie, Emma, Andrew and Luke Bowman and Cody, Bishop, Mikayla and Sutton Collins; two step great granddaughters, Shyanne Conn and Sarah Lawson, as well as many, many friends at Edgewood Nursing and Rehabilitation in Frenchburg and Ridgeway Nursing and Rehabilitation. Mary "Betty Jo" was a one-room school teacher, worked as a sales clerk at the Big Store Furniture in Morehead and held many independent sales positions through the years. A longtime member of the Dry Creek Church of God, she enjoyed teaching Sunday school and organizing programs for the church. Betty enjoyed being a pastor's wife with all the duties that went with it and loved all people. She also enjoyed cooking and feeding anyone who dropped by her house at any time of the day, reading the Bible and visiting with family and friends. Funeral services will be conducted 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 20, 2017, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Charles Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Bowman Cemetery. Pallbearers: Grandchildren (Michael, Bill, Greg, Brian), Donald Bowman, Steve Conn. Honorary pallbearers: Great grandchildren (Cody, Andrew, Bishop, Luke).
