Obituary

Mary Caldwell Haggan Phillips, age 97, of Lexington, formerly of Morehead, passed away Thursday, July 1, 2021, at Baptist Health in Lexington.

Born April 30, 1924, in Perryville, Kentucky, she was the only child of the late Henry and Pearl Harmon Haggan.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Toney Cloy Phillips, who passed away October 22, 2007, and her son, Toney Nelson Phillips, who passed away on November 26, 2018.

Mary is survived by her devoted daughter, Cynthia Phillips Haggard of Lexington, whose husband Brian passed away February 27, 2014.

Mary was an elementary teacher for Rowan County schools and later a substitute teacher for Breckinridge Training School. She enjoyed traveling, reading, watching television, and playing bridge.  Mary was a member of the Morehead United Methodist Church.

A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Monday, July 5, 2021, at Lee Cemetery with Dr. J. D. Reeder officiating.  Pallbearers will be  David Perkins, Mark Lewis, Mickey Reffitt, Dewayne Allen, Carl White, and Ronnie Brooks.

Mary requested no flowers and suggested memorial contributions be made to S.T.A.R. (Saving the Animals of Rowan), Post Office Box 454, Morehead, KY 40351.

Arrangements are under the direction of Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351.
