Mary Elizabeth Harbert, age 79, of Morehead, formerly of Lexington, passed away Saturday, January 18, 2020, at St. Claire HealthCare in Morehead.
She was born March 25, 1940, in Hazel Green, a daughter of the late Vernie L. Cecil and Orene Shockey Cecil. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Diane Cecil Compton, and a brother, David Cecil, both of Mt. Sterling.
Mrs. Harbert is survived by her daughter, Cathy Harbert Riley and husband Ronald G. Riley of Morehead; son, Marcus Harbert and wife Carrie Harbert of Mt. Washington; and grandsons, Matthew and his wife Carly, Derrick, and Andy Harbert, also of Mt. Washington.
Other survivors include her sister, Pat Harris and husband Gary Harris and their daughter Alexandria, all of Hodgenville; two brothers, Joseph Cecil and his wife Nicole of Louisville and Edward R. Cecil of Lexington.
Mrs. Harbert was a homemaker and former elementary school teacher in a one-room school at Cow Branch in Morgan County. She cared for her parents for 49 years and for the past 11 years lived at the Life Care Center in Morehead Although Mary enjoyed reading, painting, crafts, and pottery, her greatest joy was spending time with her family. A Christian, she attended Elliottville Baptist Church and formerly attended Old Grassy Christian Church in Mize, Kentucky. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends who dearly love her.
Funeral services will be conducted 10 a.m. Thursday, January 23, 2020, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor Willie Sturgill officiating. Burial will follow at the Hazel Green Cemetery, Hazel Green, Kentucky.
Pallbearers: Joe Cecil, Ed Cecil, Mark Harbert, Charles McDaniel, Danny Porter, and Jeff McClain.
Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, January 22, 2020, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
