Mary Laverne Coffey Arnett, age 83, of McBrayer Road, Clearfield, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, February 19, 2008, at Springfield Regional Medical Center in Springfield, Ohio. She was born August 12, 1924, in Renfro Valley, Rockcastle County, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Justice and Gladden Proctor Coffey. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Edward and Jean Coffey and Charles and Thelma Coffey, and two sisters, Louise Morrissey and Ollie Grace Coffey. On December 21, 1944, she was united in marriage to her husband, the Rev. Sherman R. Arnett, who preceded her in death on September 4, 2000, after 55 years of marriage. Survivors include one daughter, Brenda (Jim) Engle of South Vienna, Ohio, and two sons, Gerald Arnett of Clearfield, Kentucky, and Dr. Larry (Dr. Shelia) Arnett of Morehead, Kentucky; six grandchildren, Jennifer (Andrew) Vorhees of Independence, Kentucky; Dr. Mark (Tamara) Engle of Columbus Ohio; Brandy (Toby) Coyle of Berea, Kentucky; Brett (Megan) Arnett of Morehead, Kentucky; Brooke Arnett of Morehead, Kentucky; and Blake Arnett of Morehead, Kentucky; and four great grandchildren, Will and Anna Engle of Columbus, Ohio, and Henry and Charlie Vorhees of Independence, Kentucky. Mary is also survived by one sister, Wanda (Frank) Pospisil of Kettering, Ohio; two brothers, James B. (Carol Ann) Coffey of Englewood, Ohio; Roger Coffey of Kettering, Ohio; one brother-in-law Bill Morrissey of Dayton, Ohio; and two sisters-in-law, Louise Coffey of Dayton, Ohio; and Lorena Arnett of Morehead, Kentucky; many loved nieces and nephews; extended family and friends. Mrs. Arnett received the B.A. and M.A. degrees from Morehead State University. She was a teacher and librarian at Fox Valley and Hillsboro elementary schools in Fleming County, Kentucky, for five years and librarian at Morehead State University Johnson-Camden Library from 1969 until her retirement in 1990. She enjoyed flower gardening, needlework, puzzles, reading and caring for her family. Mary was a member of the Salt Lick Free Will Baptist Church. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, February 23, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Harley Sexton, Jr., and the Rev. Ben Furman officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. Visitation is after 2 p.m. Friday, February 22, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals. Memorial contributions in her memory are suggested to St. Claire Hospice, 222 Medical Circle, Morehead, Kentucky. Visitation: Friday, February 22, 2008, after 2 p.m. Funeral: Saturday, February 23, 2008, at 1 p.m. Interment: Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens
