Martha Elizabeth Gilliam Maddox, age 87, of Emerson, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, August 7, 2012, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead, Kentucky. She was born July 5, 1925, in Lewis County, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Calvin and Cora Rose Gilliam. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, June Gilliam, Myrtle Korstanje, and Berchie Hamm; two brothers, Loren Gilliam and Linville Gilliam; one son, Ronnie Allen Maddox; and one daughter, Janet Ruth Maddox. Elizabeth is survived by her husband of 70 years, Clayton Maddox, whom she wed February 2, 1942; one daughter; Anna Carnell and husband JR of Olive Hill, Kentucky; two sons, Robert Maddix and wife Georgia of Lexington, Kentucky, and Clayton Maddox, Jr. of Olive Hill, Kentucky; six grandchildren, Tena Davenport, Robert Maddix, Jr., Kevin Carnell, Megan Wright, Angela Maddox, and Kyle Maddox; four great grandchildren, Courtney, Hugh, Riley, and Jared; and many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Mrs. Maddox was a homemaker and attended the Gregoryville Christian Holiness Church. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, August 11, 2012, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Brother Lewis Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Garvin Ridge Cemetery.
