Obituary

Marmett Whitt Fannin Hitch, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 22, 2026, at the age of 92.

Born November 17, 1933, to Fred Whitt and Edith Ivory Horton Whitt, Marmett grew up in Elliott County with ten siblings and a life rooted in love, faith, and hard work.

Marmett is survived by her husband of 12 years, Michael Hitch of Elliott County; one son, Troy Dale Fannin (Peggy), of Elliottville; five grandchildren, Curtis Fannin (Annette), Michele Fannin Walters (Steve), Rory Fannin (Amanda), Sara Pennington Busick (Lee), and Rachael Fannin Ryster (John); ten great-grandchildren, David Troy Fannin, Kenna Nickell Waddell (Zach), Katie Fannin Tackett (Danial), Charlie Fannin, Madison Walters Hunter (Cody), Alex Walters, Austin Fannin (Katie), Caleb Fannin, Rose Ryster, and Ezra Ryster; six great-great grandchildren, Porter Waddell, Kennie Ruth Waddell, Nial Tackett, Elizabeth Hunter, Marley Walters, and Bowen Hunter.

Additional survivors include two brothers, Ezra Aubrey Whitt and Doug Ward; two sisters, Sabra Lucille Whitt Pennington DeBord Waddell and Barbara Ann Whitt Reynolds; several nieces and nephews; and many other extended family members and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved first husband of 56 years, Luther Edward Fannin, whom she married on February 16, 1951, and who passed away on October 20, 2007; six sisters, Lillian Mauvarine Whitt Kegley, Edna Irene Whitt Kidd, Delma Leatrice Whitt Prater, Hortense Whitt Fannin, Beulah May “Louise” Whitt Pennington, and Rebecca Gay Whitt Hitch; and an infant brother, Fred Carrell Whitt.

Marmett devoted her life to her family and was known for her loving and caring nature whose kindness and faith touched many lives. A talented seamstress, she worked for Cowden Manufacturing and was proud to say that she retired after 40 years, 2 months, and 3 days. Marmett was a member of the Apostolic Tabernacle of Jesus Christ.

She loved children, family, church, music, and gardening. Spring brought the promise of new life to Marmett. As she prepared her seeds for the garden, she would often say she could feel the joy of the coming spring bubbling within her soul.

Marmett will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by her kindness and presence.

Special thank to caregivers Christy Utley, Marcie Lewis, Sarah Reed, and Lucille Waddell, as well as UK-St. Claire Hospice and Palliative Care. We will always be thankful for your love and dedication to Marmett.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, June 26, 2026, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor Arnold Ison and Elder Clyde Mays, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Fannin Cemetery at Lytten in Elliott County.

Pallbearers will be Curtis Fannin, Zach Waddell, Danial Tackett, Rory Fannin, Steve Walters, Alex Walters, Lee Busick, and John Ryster. Honorary pallbearers: great grandchildren, D. T. and Charlie Fannin, Austin and Caleb Fannin, and Cody Hunter.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 25, 2026, and Friday, June 26, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, Kentucky 40351.
