Obituary

Marie Brown Stamper Nickell, age 87, of Tater Lick Road, Morehead passed away Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead. Born December 31, 1926, in Elliott County, she was a daughter of the late Jasper and Stella Binion Brown. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers; four sisters; five grandchildren; the father of her children, Jake Stamper; a son-in-law, Lloyd Wallace; and her husband, Robert J. Nickell. Marie is survived by her children, Belle Simpson of Madison Heights, Virginia, Nola Thompson of Springfield, Missouri, Ancil (Ruth) Stamper of Elliott County, John (Linda) Stamper of Elliott County, Harold (Lisa) Stamper of Elliott County, Leo (Melissa) Stamper of Dallas, Wisconsin, Jerry (Faye) Stamper of Elliott County, Bernard (Kym) Stamper of Barron, Wisconsin, Bobby Stamper of Hawkins, Wisconsin, Evelyn (Bill) Craft of Portsmouth, Ohio, Dale (Buddy) Pennington of Elliott County, Richard (Frankie) Stamper of Elliott County, Ida Wallace of Clearfield, Dean (Jean) Stamper of Wheeler, Wisconsin, and Mitton (Rhonda) Stamper of Prairie Farm, Wisconsin; 44 grandchildren; 71 great grandchildren; and 4 great-great grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Clara Henderson of Ohio, and Goldie McPheters of Tennessee; two brothers, Junior Brown of Morehead and Roosevelt Brown of Indiana; several nieces and nephews; other relatives; and friends. Marie loved her family, working in the garden, and canning her home-grown vegetables. She enjoyed cooking and especially making chicken and dumplings for her family and friends. She also enjoyed fishing, watching 'Wheel of Fortune' and her church program each night. She was a member of the Church of God. Marie was always a hard-working and strong woman who 'watched out' for all her children and family members. She was considered the heart of the family and the bond that kept family together. She was greatly loved by all her children and grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, March 8, 2014, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel Brother Ray Glover officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Marie's ten sons will serve as pallbearers. Visitation is after 5 p.m. Friday, March 7, 2014, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead. Visitation: Friday, March 7, 2014, after 5 p.m. Funeral: Saturday, March 8, 2014, at 2 p.m. Interment: Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens
