Marie Jarrells Schmick, age 86, of Christy Creek, Morehead, passed away Monday, April 25, 2016, at the Life Care Center in Morehead. Born June 23, 1929, in Elliottville, she was the daughter of the late Dee Whitt Jarrells and Annie Johnson Jarrells. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, John Everett and Lewis Jarrells. Marie is survived by one daughter, Patricia Chromcik of Hemet, California; two granddaughters, Melissa Potenzo of Chicago, Illinois, and Serafina Potenzo of San Jose, California; 3 great granddaughters, Harley, Raegan, and Loreli; and one sister, Myrtle Sihon and husband Donald Harris of Ypsilanti, Michigan. Marie retired as a research assistant from Hughes Aircraft Corporation in Los Angeles and prior to moving to California had worked at the Chrysler Corporation in Michigan for more than 20 years. Following retirement, she returned to Morehead where she enjoyed traveling, gardening, volunteering at St. Claire Regional Medical Center Auxiliary and working at the election polls. Marie enjoyed life to the fullest, whether she was acting as an extra in the movies in LA, mowing her lawn, or visiting with family and friends. She will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be conducted 3 p.m. Sunday, May 1, 2016, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor Tim Rhodes officiating. Burial will follow in Brown Cemetery. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Visitation is 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, April 29, 2016, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead.
