Obituary

Marie Mays, age 93, Brown Ridge, Morehead, KY moved from her earthly home to her heavenly home on Monday, October 2, 2017. Marie was an example of a virtuous woman as described in Proverbs 31. Verse 29 tells us, "There are many virtuous and capable women in the world, but you surpass them all." Marie was a hardworking woman all of her life. Farming was a way of life for her. She made the most of what she had for her family. She will long be remembered for her biscuits, fried chicken, and canned goods. She was a dedicated wife and mother. Marie was born in Elliott County on April 21, 1924, and was preceded in death by her parents, Lemuel and Rebecca Jane Porter Crum, and her husband of 66 years, Elbert Mays. She had one child who died in child birth, Jeanette. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Otis Crum; three sisters, Vesta Crum Thomas, Dixie Crum Prince, and Olie Crum Dehart; two half-brothers and one step-sister. Left to mourn her passing are three sons: Clyde Edward Mayse, Ypsilanti, Michigan, Delbert Eugene Mayse (Marilyn) Ypsilanti, Michigan, Elbert Ray Mayse (deceased wife Wilma) Clinton, Michigan; four daughters: Darlene Topeka Mayse, Winchester, KY, Retha (Dale) Davis Morehead, KY, Rella (David) Evans, Richmond, KY, and Barbara Ann Mays (companion-William) Morehead, KY; fourteen grandchildren: Marquita Marie Riddle, Ricky Mayse, Steve Mayse, Tony Mayse, Cassie Heath Baisch, Wendell Jay Miley, Robert Prescott Miley, Michael Miley, Stoney Ray Mayse, Leland Colby Mayse, Kristi Lynn Mayse, Timothy Dale Davis, Bethany Evans and Emily Elam; and one step-sister, Sue Brown. There are also 26 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; a special former daughter-in-law, Hildas Mayse; and a host of nieces and nephews and friends. Marie had a life worth living. Special appreciation goes to Marie's daughter, Barbara Mays, who acted as her caregiver over the last four years. She never left her side during her Mother's struggles. Also a special thank you to Delores Stevens and Palliative Care and Hospice Care. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, October 7, 2017, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor David Evans officiating. Burial will follow in the Mays Cemetery on Brown Ridge.
