Maria Louisa Virzi was born on June 24, 1938, in Collecchia, Italy, and passed peacefully on January 29, 2025, in Morehead, Kentucky. She and her father, mother, and brother immigrated to the United States on December 30, 1955, where they established residency in Chicago, IL.

In 1959, Maria met her husband, Joseph Virzi II, MD, at a wedding in Chicago. Two years later they married on June 3, 1961, and upon Joe being drafted by the US Navy moved to the United States Naval Air Station in Jacksonville, Florida. Lt. Commander Dr. Joseph Virzi was honorably discharged in 1968 and took great pride in his private practice caring for Vietnam veterans and other patients until his passing in 2009.

Both Maria and Joseph enjoyed their professional and social involvement while raising their three children.  Maria made friends wherever she went and enjoyed raising her family, cooking, entertaining and playing tennis on the Deerwood Country Club Team with her lifelong friends. For many years, Joe and Maria also enjoyed being a part of the Jacksonville social life.  Maria moved to Morehead in 2020 to be cared for by her daughter Marisa until her death.

In addition to her husband, Maria was preceded in death by her father, Adolfo Trivelli, and her mother, Adina Bongi Trivelli.

Left to cherish her memory are her three children:  Diana-Marie Virzi of Jacksonville, Florida, Marisa Ann White (Ray) of Morehead, Kentucky, and Joseph Anthony Virzi III (Cathryn) of Seattle, Washington; her grandchildren:  Morgan Sourbrine, Laura White-Brown, Maria White, Ray White II, Connor Virzi, and Stella Virzi; and her great-grandchildren:  M'Shae and Christian Brown.

Maria is also survived by her brother, Mauro Trivelli and his wife Rosemary, of Chicago, Illinois, and nieces and nephews:  Julie O'Neill (Joe) and Angelo, Enzo, Giovanna O'Neill; Jennifer Trivelli; Michael Trivelli (Marissa) and Gianna, Nico, and Josie Trivelli. Maria was loved by all.

Private services for the family will be held in Morehead at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351.

On Thursday, February 6, 2025, visitation will start at 9 a.m. followed by a mass at 10 a.m. at St. Celestine Catholic Church, 3020 N. 76th Ct., Elmwood Park, IL 60707.  Entombment will take place at Christ the King Mausoleum Queen of Heaven.  Belmont Funeral Home is conducting arrangements.
