Obituary

Mabel R. Sturgill Elks, age 95, of Louisville, formerly of Morehead, passed away Friday, March 14, 2014, at the home of her granddaughter, Sandy Butler, in Louisville. She was born August 8, 1918, in Haldeman, a daughter of the late Lawrence Peyton Sturgill and Mae Conn Sturgill. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Armada Sturgill and Maudie Eldridge; one brother, James William 'Bill' Sturgill; and one grandson, Christopher Clay Preston. Her husband, Curtis Elks, passed away April 19, 2002. Mabel is survived by one son, Butch Crum and wife Jennifer of Morehead; three daughters, Judith Caito and Bonnie Butler, both of Louisville; and Sharlene Preston of Winchester; 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. She also leaves behind special friends, Faye Collins, Olive Riddle, Sandy Wilson, Kay Dehart, Margie Elam, and Tish Lewis. She was a former employee of the Model Laundry and Imperial Cleaners and former co-owner of the Campus Restaurant. Mabel attended the Freewill Baptist Church. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday, March 17, 2014, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Harley Sexton, Jr., officiating. Burial will follow in Brown Cemetery with grandchildren serving as pallbearers. Visitation is after 5 p.m. Sunday, March 16, 2014, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead. Visitation: Sunday, March 16, 2014, after 5 p.m. Funeral: Monday, March 17, 2014, at 2 p.m. Interment: Brown Cemetery
