Obituary

Lynn Schuyler Evans passed away on February 28, 2025, in Palm Harbor, Florida.  She was born October 19, 1939, in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, as the first child of Lucille (Hamilton) and Eldon Thompson Evans, who have preceded her in death.  Her father was a prominent businessman as he was owner of the Drew Evans Tie Company and was Mayor of Morehead in the early 1960's.

Lynn grew up in Morehead, Kentucky, where she attended Breckinridge Training School from kindergarten through the sophomore year of high school. She went on to finish her high school education at Gulf Park High School for Women, in Mississippi, where she was an honor student and she continued to show horses as one of her hobbies.

She started her undergraduate studies at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, where she maintained a 4.0 GPA for her four semesters.  Then she transferred to Stetson University located in DeLand, Florida, where she earned her BA in English and she received the distinction of being named in "Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities".  While at Stetson she was selected as a finalist in the national Maid of Cotton Contest.

In her first job after receiving her undergraduate degree, she traveled the country for Procter and Gamble as a representative in their North American Market Research Division.  Tired of living out of a suitcase, she settled down in Cincinnati where she worked for both WLW television and radio as a featured news reporter, and later worked for 3M Company as their Director of Public Relations.  Career opportunities took her on to work for the State of Kentucky Travel and Tourism and later for the Bluegrass Airport, in Lexington, KY.

After being in the business world for a number of years, she returned to academia at Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida, where she earned her Master in Teaching.

Throughout her early years she traveled extensively in Europe, the Caribbean's, Central America and Canada.

She moved to Florida approximately 30 years ago and stayed active being a Board Member of the American Association of University Women and a Board Member for the Clearwater Library.

Lynn's deep love was having a dog by her side and her current dog "Sky" was her companion during her final years.

Many years ago, Lynn developed a close friendship with her cousin, Nancy Lane, through their love of dogs.  Nancy lived in Morehead and Lynn would often leave her dog with her after visiting her parents before heading off on her travels.

Lynn could always count on Nancy to be there for her over the past 30 years and was fortunate Nancy chose to purchase a second home near her in Florida. Lynn was also comforted and counseled by another close cousin, Eldon McCartney with his love and support like a brother.

As Lynn needed more assistance, in 2008, Jan Stammer came into her life as a companion helper.  Over time Lynn's health requirements grew beyond the care Nancy and Jan could provide but with help of many very dedicated caregivers Lynn continued living in her home until the very end.

She is survived by:

Her sister - Mary Drew (Sissy) Schmitt; Nephew - Sky Schmitt; Great-nieces - Claire Schmitt; Meredith Schmitt;

Cousins - Eldon McCartney, Nancy Lane, Tom Hinton, Bill Lane, Drew Lane, Sidney McCartney Day, Dent McCartney —who will forever call her by her nickname — Punkie
