Obituary

Luerene Pennington Caudill Ison, age 88, of Rawcel Street, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Monday, June 17, 2013, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead. She was born January 17, 1925, in Elliott County, Kentucky, a daughter of Charlie and Alta Fraley Pennington. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Rev. Arvel Sterling Caudill, Sr., in 1974, and her second husband, James Eldon Ison in 2011. She was also preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Randolph Pennington, Ronnie Pennington, and Glenn Pennington; and five sisters, Dorothy Dehart, Pearl Black, Ann Anderson, Gemima Pennington, and Elizabeth Buttry. Mrs. Ison is survived by one son, Dr. Jerry W. Caudill and wife Stella of Carrollton, Kentucky; two daughters, Debbie Caudill Schellenger and husband David of Portland, Oregon, and Sherry Caudill Kopp and husband Robert of Orlando, Florida; one stepson, Arvel Junior Caudill and wife Ivetta of Morehead, Kentucky; three grandchildren, Sarah Arnett, Harrison Caudill and wife Elizabeth, and Lawson Caudill and wife Becky; and two special great granddaughters, Audree Elizabeth Arnett and Mackenzie Alexandra Caudill. Also surviving are four sisters, Leeona Tackett and husband Vernon, and Nadine Downing and husband Jim, all of Morehead, Kentucky, and Laura Pennington and Margery Griffith, both of Fairborn, Ohio; numerous nieces and nephews; extended family and friends. Luerene adored all her family and enjoyed sharing her home with each of her siblings at some point in their lives. When she and Arvel lived on Main Street, overflow family would often live in 'The Cabin' next door, where everyone enjoyed the hospitality for which she was known. Luerene worked at Cowden Mfg. for a short time, but left to be a stay-at-home mom and raise her family. Her devotion and caring, not only to her children, but to extended family was reflected in her nurturing, loving care as well as her homemaking skills. She enjoyed gardening, canning, and cooking and was well known for many specialties, including her biscuits and lemon cream pie. A lifelong Christian, she was a member of the First Church of God. Funeral services will be conducted 10 a.m. Thursday, June 20, 2013, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Nephew Keith Pennington officiating. Burial will follow in the Pennington Cemetery. Pallbearers: David Schellenger, Lawson Caudill, Harrison Caudill, Randy Anderson, Charles Pennington, and Tony Buttry. Honorary Pallbearers: Arvel Junior Caudill, Simon Eldridge, Jr., Steve Walker, Vernon Tackett, and Cecil Ison. Visitation is after 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead, Kentucky. Visitation: Wednesday, June 19, 2013, after 6 p.m. Funeral: Thursday, June 20, 2013, at 10 a.m. Interment: Pennington Cemetery
