Obituary

Lovena Davis Richardson, 88, of U.S. 60 West, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Monday, April 29, 2013, at her home. Born April 15, 1925, at Bluestone, Kentucky, in Rowan County, she was a daughter of the late William James Davis and Oda Hazel Padgett Davis. On August 5, 1944, Lovena wed William L. 'Bill' Richardson, who passed away June 14, 2005, after 61 years of marriage. Their daughter, Barbara Ann Richardson McKenzie, preceded her mother in death on June 26, 2009. Mrs. Richardson is survived by three sons, Dr. J. David Richardson and Suzanne of Louisville, Kentucky, Dr. Ronald Lynn Richardson of Louisville, Kentucky, Paul Keith Richardson and Kathy of Morehead, Kentucky; and one brother, Dr. James Earl Davis and Hazel of Athens, Ohio. Other survivors include 11 grandchildren, Melissa Ann Richardson, Dr. William Ryan Richardson, Michael Todd Richardson, David Britton Richardson, Whitney Ann Richardson, Matthew Richardson, Veronica Lynn Stivers, Jessica Ann Ferguson, James Michael McKenzie, Jason Telehany, and Dr. Amy Kathleen Richardson Searfoss; 13 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. She also leaves many special church friends and longtime neighbor and dear friend, Jean Brown. Her nieces, Judy Richardson Jefferson and Wilma 'Sissy' Lewis, were like daughters. Her caregivers, Michael McKenzie and Almeda Brown, earned a special place in heaven for their loving attention during the final year of her life. Lovena was a member of the First Church of God for over 70 years where she taught Sunday school for several decades. She was treasurer for the Missionary Society for over 40 years. In 2011, she was awarded the Grace Crosthwaite Community Service Award from the University of Kentucky. She and her late husband donated the property which currently houses the Kentucky Folk Art Center where the main gallery is named in their honor. In addition to being a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, she was artistic and was well known for teaching cake decorating for adult education classes. Her painted Old World Santas are beloved by family and friends. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, May 2, 2013, at the Morehead First Church of God with Pastor Allan Hutchinson and Pastor Matt Richardson officiating. Burial will follow in Lee Cemetery. Pallbearers: William Ryan Richardson, Michael Todd Richardson, Jason Telehany, Bradley Stivers, David Paul Searfoss, Britton Richardson, Matt Richardson, Allen Ferguson, and James Michael McKenzie. Visitation is from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals and at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 2, 2013, at the Morehead First Church of God. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Kentucky Folk Art Center, 102 West First Street, Morehead, KY 40351 or First Church of God, 576 Sunset Drive, Morehead, KY 40351 Visitation: Wednesday, May 1, 2013, 4-8 p.m. at Northcutt & Son; 10 am.
