Obituary

Lovena Ann Johnson Mocabee, age 80, of Mocabee Lane, Olive Hill, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at St. Claire HealthCare in Morehead, Kentucky.

She was born April 7, 1944, in Bangor, KY, the daughter of the late Harve and Zada Bair Johnson.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Jack Mocabee, who died September 15, 2007; one grandson, Sheldon Mocabee; three brothers, Delbert Johnson, Lovern Johnson, and her twin brother, Oshel Johnson; two sisters, Judy Ramp and Wiladean Blevins; and Kay Stewart who Lovena considered a sister.

Lovena is survived by two sons, Charles Sheldon Redale Mocabee and wife Kim of Morehead, Kentucky, and Paul Joseph Mocabee of Soldier, Kentucky; one daughter, LeeAnn Rene' Mocabee of Soldier, Kentucky, and six grandchildren, Joshua Mabry (Ashley Bullins), Elijah Caleb Mabry (Lauren), Jacob Hunter Hilterbrand, Charles Cody Mocabee, Tamera Deanna Mocabee, and Reanna Paige Mocabee; and two great grandchildren, Amelia Rose Mabry and Evelyn Aranea Mabry.

Other survivors include one sister, Donna Mae Johnson Bradley of Soldier. Kentucky, and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Lovena was involved in helping patients in a medical environment for nearly 30 years.  She was a CNA at St. Claire Medical Center for 15 years, from April 29, 1985, until January 3, 2000, and also worked at St. Claire Home Health for 8 years, and Life Care Center for 4 years.

A dedicated Christian, she was saved in Dayton, Ohio, in a Baptist Church.  When Lovena returned to Kentucky, she became a dedicated member of the Soldier Wesleyan Church.  During her 50 years as a member of the church, she was very involved in numerous activities including serving as a Sunday School Superintendent, being a Sunday School teacher for more than 10 years and a board member for four years.

Always eager to help others, Lovena was instrumental in helping Carter County secure water from Rowan County.  She enjoyed traveling, scrapbooking, crossword puzzles, nurturing flowers and making beautiful flower beds. She loved her family unconditionally and especially enjoyed the grandchildren.  She will be greatly missed and remembered with love always.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12 noon Saturday, July 13, 2024, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Brother Bobby Day officiating.  Burial will follow in Trumbo Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Joshua Mabry, Elijah Caleb Mabry, Charles Cody Mocabee, Jacob Hunter Hilterbrand, Tim Mocabee, Jonathan Mocabee, and Dana Mocabee.

Visitation is 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, July 12, 2024, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351.
