Louise Atlas Adkins Sargent, age 68, of Morehead, formerly of Blairs Mill, passed away Sunday, September 17, 2017, at the Life Care Center in Morehead, surrounded by those she loved after a courageous battle with cancer. Born May 5, 1949, in Morehead, she is the daughter of Edith Adkins Hale of Morehead, and the late Henry Perry. Besides her father, she was preceded in death by her husband, James D. "JD" Sargent; a son, Ricky Sargent; a daughter, Sheila Gay Sargent; a sister, Winona Easterling; a brother, Arthur Adkins; twin grandsons, Harley and Mason Sargent; and stepfather, James Hale. In addition to her mother, Louise is survived by her constant companion, Elwood Caudill of Clearfield; two sons, James D. Sargent, Jr. (Tiffany) and Anthony Sargent (Lisa), all of West Liberty; 11 grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters, Mary Mullen (Jerry) and Candy Marcum (Ronnie Caudill), all of Morehead, and Margaret Roff (KC) of Rancho Cucamonga, California; three brothers, Charles Hale, James Hale (Rhonda), and Dave Hale, all of Morehead; a sister-in-law, Nyoka Adkins of Dunlow, West Virginia; and several nieces and nephews. Louise also leaves behind her special Mountain Cur, Bubby, whom she loved. Louise was a homemaker and an avid gardener, who loved cooking, canning, and visiting with family and friends. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, September 21, 2017, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Eugene Haney and Andrew Sargent officiating. Burial will follow in Sargent Family Cemetery in Blairs Mill. Pallbearers: Kaleb Sargent, Austin Sargent, Jimmy Hale, Charlie Hale, Ronnie Caudill, and Donnie Caudill.
