Loran Everett Hyatt, age 86, of Sugarloaf Mountain Road, Morehead, Kentucky, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 1, 2023, at his residence.
Born May 21, 1937, in Rowan County, Loren was a son of the late Troy Addison Hyatt and Ella Cooper Hyatt. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife and the mother of his children, Jewell Frances Epperhart Hyatt; two sisters, Emma Grace Markwell Hyatt and Rosa Ellen Hyatt Dailey Porter; and two brothers, Mitchell Hyatt and William Hyatt.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Hoffer Hyatt; four children, Linda Hyatt of Morehead, Cindy Scroggins (Glenn) of Palm Coast, Florida, Rick Evans of Fostoria, Ohio, and Ellen Sutliff (J.R.) of Summerville, South Carolina; 7 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; and his constant canine companion and buddy, "Bear."
Other survivors include his brother, George Hyatt of Morehead and two sisters, Christine Butler (Andy) of Morehead and Rena Cassidy (Tom) of Perrysburg, Ohio, as well as a host of nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
Loran was a minister for nearly 60 years and during that time served as the pastor in several churches in Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky. He was the pastor of Purtee Church in Peebles, Ohio, before moving to Morehead about six weeks ago. He read the Bible faithfully and spent hours studying and researching the Word. Each day he lived a Christian life by example.
Loran enjoyed being a construction worker for 70 years. He was a hard worker and loved spending time with family, especially all the grandchildren, great children and great-great grandchildren, telling stories and recalling the history of the family. Well known and well liked, he loved all children and was often called "Uncle Loran" by unrelated children and adults in the community. He also loved McDonalds, tacos, singing, watching Western movies and reading Western novels. For many years, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Loran will be greatly missed and remembered by those many lives he touched during his earthly journey.
