Lonnie Ray Skaggs, age 70, of Route 7, Olive Hill, Kentucky, beloved husband, devoted father, grandfather, and great grandfather, went to be with our Lord on Sunday, May 30, 2010, at the Skaggs Cemetery in Elliott County, Kentucky, while decorating his mother-s grave. Born November 18, 1939, in Elliott County, Lonnie was the son of Emmitt and Edith Simmons Skaggs and grew up exploring the hills and hollows around Caney Creek. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, William Humphrey Skaggs; two sisters, Audrey Cox and Pauline Cox; one half brother, Johnny Skaggs; and one half sister, Faye Wice. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 51 years, Joyce Francis Blankenbeckler Skaggs, whom he married on April 25, 1959. Even though Lonnie has gone on to a better place, he leaves a family legacy behind-his only son, Rickey Skaggs and wife Janice of Olive Hill, Kentucky; his three daughters, Bonita Parsons and husband Rocky of Sandy Hook, Kentucky, Patty Simmons and husband Jacky of Sandy Hook, Kentucky, and Tammy Boggs and husband Thomas of Olive Hill, Kentucky. Lonnie will also live on through his grandchildren-Misty Skaggs, Eric Parsons, Jaclyn Simmons, Megan Boggs-Abner, Morgan Boggs, Aaron Boggs, and Garrett Simmons-and his brand-new great granddaughter, Abigail Richmond. Other survivors include two brothers, Robert Skaggs of Carter City, Kentucky, and Charles Skaggs of Morehead, Kentucky; three half brothers, Jackie Skaggs and Jimmie Skaggs of Michigan and Benny Skaggs of Missouri; four sisters, Anna Pearl Oakley of Mansfield, Ohio, Myrtle Slusher of Red Bird, Kentucky, Hallie Hatfield of Hudson, Florida, and Mary Ellen Oakley of Carter City, Kentucky; four half sisters, Barbara Jean Mays of Sandy Hook, Kentucky, Arlene White of Morehead, Kentucky, Jannie Blevins of Lexington, Kentucky, and Susie Townsend of Michigan. Lonnie walked a Christian path in the service of the Lord for 37 years. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 2, 2010, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Brother Ronnie Easterling and Brother Austin Carter officiating. Burial will follow in the Holbrook-Lemaster Cemetery on Beartown Ridge Road in Elliott County. Pallbearers will be Eric Parsons, Tony Blankenbeckler, Phillip Cox, Raymond Thornsberry, Mike Abner, and C. J. Skaggs. Honorary pallbearers will be Garrett Simmons, Aaron Boggs, Bill Skaggs, and Darren Skaggs. Visitation is after 5 p.m. Tuesday, June 1, 2010, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead.
