Lester Evans, age 95, of Cranston Road, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Friday, December 6, 2024, at his home.

Born September 18, 1929, in Rowan County, he was the son of the late James Perry Evans and Maxine Tolliver Evans.

Lester is survived by his loving wife of 74 years, Mildred Esham Evans; one daughter, Connie Proudfoot and husband Dr. Richard Proudfoot; two grandchildren, Leslie Fife and husband Chris and Stuart Proudfoot and wife Dr. Katherine Yared; two great-grandchildren, Arista Fife and Jillian Proudfoot.

Also surviving are his sister, Joyce Rigsby Black of Morehead, nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.

Lester was a lifelong learner and enjoyed each chapter of his earthly journey.  He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, graduated from Morehead State University, and retired as an educator following a gratifying career.

As a young man, he worked for Ashland Oil as a crewman on barges on the Ohio and Mississippi rivers before entering the field of education.  He enthusiastically served as a teacher in Rowan and Fayette counties teaching science classes, primarily high school physics.  Later he was employed as a curriculum consultant for the state until his retirement at age 65.

Following retirement, he and Mildred pursued farming at home and in Lewis County.   He was a Jack-of-all-trades and a handy mechanic who enjoyed fixing all sorts of things.

In spite of his many obligations, Lester always found time for his family, the most important part of his life.  He was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, who will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered.

Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor Cecil Ison officiating.

Burial will follow in the Evans Cemetery with full military honors conducted by Morehead American Legion Post 126.  Pallbearers will be Dr. Richard Proudfoot, Stuart Proudfoot, Chris Fife, Mark Esham, Harry Clark and Rodney Plank.

Visitation for Lester Evans will be from 11:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351.
