Leona Pearl White Stewart Matney, age 92, of Mansfield, Ohio, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 4, 2014, at Hospice of North Central Ohio in Ashland, Ohio. Born November 4, 1922, in Rowan County, Leona was a daughter of the late James Monroe and Bertha Collins White. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by six brothers, Orville, Allie, Wayne, James, Denver, and Edsel White, and two sisters, Roxie Johnson and Arlena Webb. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert Linkus 'Link' Matney, and her former husband, Fred Stewart. She is survived by three sons, James R. Stewart of Columbus, Ohio, Douglas Matney of Birmingham, Alabama, and Anthony Matney and wife Janie of Lexington, Ohio; one daughter, Bernetta Kay Stewart Owens of Mansfield, Ohio; one sister, Rosemary Wright of Morehead; four grandchildren, Bryan Owens and wife Cynthia, Bradley Owens and wife Rachel, Jimmy Stewart and wife Shelley, and Ryan Matney; five great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and extended family. Leona and her husband Link owned the Park Avenue Laundry in Mansfield. She loved cooking for all friends and family; vegetable gardening was one of her passions. She was a longtime member of the Stewart Road Church of God. Graveside services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 7, 2014, at the Clearfield Cemetery with Paris Ferguson officiating. Pallbearers will be Stan Kovar, Bryan Owens, Bradley Owens, Hunter Owens, Reece Owens, and Edsel White, Jr. Visitation is 1 p.m. Sunday, December 7, 2014, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of North Central Ohio, 1050 Dauch Drive, Ashland, OH 44805.
