Obituary

Lenora Perkins Murphy, age 95, of Holly Fork Road, Morehead, passed away Thursday, February 18, 2016, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead. Born June 15, 1920, on Perkins Ridge in Rowan County, she was a daughter of the late Eddie Morton Perkins and Sarah Gregory Perkins. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, James Roscoe Perkins and Clayton Millard Perkins; two sisters, Virgie Jones and infant Dorothy Perkins; two sons, William 'Bill' Murphy and Lester 'Pete' Murphy; two grandsons, William Murphy, Jr., and James Thomas 'Tom' Moore; one son-in-law, Elwood Collins; and one daughter-in-law, Judy Murphy Wallace. On October 31, 1937, Lenora was united in marriage to Raymond Murphy, who passed away on December 28, 1990. She is survived by one son, David R. Murphy and wife Jo of Morehead; three daughters, Barbara Moore and husband Jim of West Liberty, Charlotte Collins Bowman and husband Billy of Clearfield, and Helen Moore and husband Jackie of Hillsboro; numerous grandchildren; great grandchildren; and great-great grandchildren. Other survivors include three brothers, William 'Bill' Perkins of Dayton, Ohio, Jesse Perkins of Wetumptka, Alabama, and Robert 'Bob' Perkins of Morehead; two sisters, Myrtle Terrell of Morehead and Dessie Swimm of Allen Park, Michigan; and a host of nieces and nephews, extended family, and friends. She also leaves behind her very devoted caregivers, granddaughter Jamie Moore, Misty Hicks, and Miranda Butler. Lenora was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother who enjoyed being with her family and friends. She also enjoyed working at the Life Care Center from the time it opened until her retirement as supervisor of housekeeping. She was also known as a wonderful homemaker, cook, and quilter, as well as an accomplished farmer and avid gardener, who loved sharing her harvest with everyone. Lenora was a Godly woman who was baptized on her 21st birthday and daily witnessed as a Christian. She was a faithful member of the Adams-Plank Church. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, February 21, 2016, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Brother Don Rivers officiating. Burial will follow in the Hogge Cemetery. Pallbearers: Richard Hunter, Dallas Plank, Tony Sargent, Mitch Collins, Steve Bonney, and Justin Perkins. Visitation is 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, February 20, 2016, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead.
