Dr. Layla Bayatti Sabie, age 79, passed on peacefully on June 14, 2014, at her home in Lexington with her children by her side. An enthusiastic runner and dedicated teacher, Dr. Sabie was a retired Morehead State University professor. Dr. Sabie received her bachelor's degree from the American University of Beirut and a masters and doctorate from George Peabody Teachers College of Vanderbilt University. Along with Dr. Mohammed K. Sabie, her late husband, she had been a resident of Morehead since 1964. One of the most kind and patient people you could meet, Dr. Sabie always had a beautiful smile and loved life. Dr. Sabie is survived by her three children: Sheda Sabie King (husband Brent, children Mia and Noah), Charlotte, NC; Kal Sabie (wife Heather, children Spencer, Nadia, Nikki and Lucas), Hollywood, FL; and Mona Sabie Womack (husband James, children Mason and Casey), Lexington, KY. Graveside services will be conducted 3 p.m. Monday, June 16, 2014, at Lee Cemetery. There is no visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead.
