Laura Tucker Ellis, M.D., age 49, of Morehead, Kentucky, a loving wife, mother, daughter, granddaughter, sister, and beloved family physician, passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at her home. Born October 31, 1963, in Louisville, Kentucky, Laura is the daughter of Joseph Tucker of Louisville and the late Joyce Curran Tucker. On June 3, 1989, Laura was united in marriage to Jeffrey Lee Ellis, M.D., and they were blessed with four sons whom she adored, Nicholas Tucker Ellis, Matthew Lee Ellis, Tucker Jay Ellis, and Jack Roman Ellis, all at home. Also to cherish her memory are her father; her sister, Celeste Tucker Worth; and grandmother, Olivia Pohl Curran, all of Louisville; other loving family members; many loyal patients who greatly appreciated her knowledge and compassion; and countless dear friends. Dr. Ellis came to Morehead after completing her family practice residency in 1992. She was warmly welcomed into the community and quickly became very popular with her patients and colleagues. She practiced at the Morehead Clinic from 1992 until 2005. After taking some time to be with her children, she returned to practice with St. Claire Regional Family Medicine from 2007 to 2010. Dr. Ellis attended the University of Louisville where she graduated Summa Cum Laude in 1985. She then attended the University of Louisville Medical School where she graduated in 1989. Dr. Ellis completed her family practice residency at the Trover Clinic and Regional Medical Center in Madisonville, Kentucky. Dr. Ellis served St. Claire Regional Medical Center as the Medical Staff President in 1997-1998 and was a diplomate of the American Academy of Family Physicians. She was very active in the Morehead community where she had been Chairman of the Board of the Hope Pregnancy Center, volunteered at the People's Clinic, and served as a member of the board of Lakeside Christian Academy. She was loved by her patients and was voted Best Physician in the Region on multiple occasions by the readers of The Morehead News. Laura was a member of Morehead United Methodist Church. Her family and her faith were the most important things in her life. Visitation is from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Friday, March 8, 2013, at the Morehead United Methodist Church, Wesley Hall (no steps). A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 9, 2013, also at the Morehead United Methodist Church, Wesley Hall, with the Rev. Aaron Mansfield officiating. Burial will follow in Lee Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jason Ellis, Jared Ellis, Adam Thomas, Christopher Thomas, Todd Russell, Roger Russell, Michael Hurst and John Ellis. Arrangements are under the direction of Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, Fraley Drive, Morehead, Kentucky.
