Larry Dean Gregory, age 69, of Harris Lane, Hillsboro, passed away Thursday, March 9, 2017, at his home surrounded by family and holding the hands of his daughters. Born March 30, 1947, at Sharkey in Rowan County, he was a son of the late James Matthew and Mary Tennie Caudill Gregory. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 33 years, Bonita Jo Fannin Gregory, who passed away February 17, 2014; one son, Sam Gregory on October 5, 2002; four brothers, Lloyd, Dorsie, Sam, and Charles Gregory; and six sisters, Olive Harris, Lena Eldridge, Elsie Gregory, Delphia Cox, Margie Branham, and Beatrice 'Bea' Cox. He is survived by two daughters, Angela Gregory and Fina Fatty of Lexington and Amber Gregory Blankenbeckler and Kevin of Olive Hill; one son, Chris Castetter of Columbus, Indiana; and seven grandchildren, Logan DeRossett, Konner Fatty, Hunter, Ethan, and Abigail Castetter, Bradley Wagoner, and Andrew Blankenbeckler. Other survivors include two brothers, Lonnie Gregory (Hester) of Morehead and Willie Gregory of Hillsboro; several nieces and nephews; and many friends and neighbors. Larry was a U.S. Army veteran and former HVAC technician. Larry loved mowing (especially giving Logan and Konner rides on the mower), spending time with his children and grandchildren, and eating out. He also enjoyed genealogy and watching Investigation Discovery TV. Larry was generous to others and often would 'pay-it-forward' at restaurants. He appreciated the friendship of many and the thoughtful and loving attention from his V.A. Medical Clinic girls. Baptized on January 12, 2014, Larry was proud member of Little Mary Church. He will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Monday, March 13, 2017, at Little Mary Church with Bro. Justin Wagoner and Bro. Herbie Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in Little Mary Cemetery on Maxey Flat with full military honors by Morehead American Legion Post 126. Pallbearers: Kevin Blankenbeckler, Greg DeRossett, Rodney Gregory, Donald Rison, Darwin Gregory, and Dewayne Gregory. Grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers. Visitation is 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, March 12, 2017, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead.
